This is a love story.
Itโ€™s brutal.
Heartwrenching.
Terrifying, honest, and raw.
But a love story nonetheless…because it is so beautiful.
Ensley:
Noah Carter was the type of guy that every girl wanted.
Gorgeous. Talented. Smart and kind.
He was the world that revolved around me even though I didnโ€™t deserve him.
But then something went wrong.
He snapped maybe, just lost his mind.
I found him the night my family died, their blood staining his hands.
I put him in prison. I got my revenge.
But then years later he broke free and stole me away from my life.
Noah:
You couldnโ€™t know Ensley without wanting to strangle her.
She was beautiful. She was wild. She was the girl next door.
I grew up with her by my side.
I watched her destroy herself while I held on.
I protected her when she had been blind to the danger that surrounded her.
I let her go once, only to find her again.
She would see me this time no matter what.
โ€œI hate you,โ€ she hissed, hair wild around her face like it always had been.

โ€œI know.โ€

Her body shook, and her shoulders wilted, arms curled around her body, fingernails digging into her skin. โ€œI need-โ€œ

โ€œI know,โ€ I said, stepping forward to grab onto her so she wouldnโ€™t have to say it.

Our eyes met in the shadow of that room. โ€œYou donโ€™t need to say it. I know.โ€

Iโ€™ve always known…but I couldnโ€™t do anything about it.

Ens melted in my grasp, like water through my hands, trying to slip away and escape so she could damage herself in some way I couldnโ€™t stop, but I wouldnโ€™t let her.

Not this time.

Not again.

Gripping my hand over the back of her head, I pulled her to me, my mouth locking over hers, tongue risking the clench of her teeth because she would fight me tooth and nail while this happened, but thatโ€™s what she needed.

To fight me.

To injure me.

Because she had never been able to fight them.

Fingernails cut into my biceps, her body thrashing to break free, but I held on and kissed her like I was giving her the air she needed to breathe.

Shoving Ensley down on the bed, I grabbed the back of my shirt to strip it off, every muscle in my body tense because I knew I was a bastard for wanting this.

For wanting her.

For taking advantage, even though it had never been my intent.

MY REVIEW: Brutally dark and harsh! Young love and cruel adults reign in this fabulous story. Breathtaking, gripping storytelling! No one does epic love between broken lovers like this author. So much emotion and gut-wrenching heartbreak. These characters crawl under your skin and into your heart while crushing your soul. Two youngsters that became immediate friends and grow into teen lovers, Ensley and Noah have so much to deal with in their young lives. Ens and her horrible home life and Noah always wanting to protect the girl he loves but failing more times than winning. Noah is an exceptional hero with his forever love and understanding even when Ensley pushes his buttons and goes off the rails. My heart cried for Ensley and her predicament that led to a life of brokenness for one so young. The twenty two years apart didnโ€™t diminish the love between these two. Mad love and violent sex and sweethearts forever. As Noah led her to the truth I was trying to guess what they were hiding. I was so wrong! What a crazy ending! I was cheering as the bad guys got what they deserved. I did have a lot of questions after the epilogue. I thought the last chapter was epic and Iโ€™m not one that always wants a HEA so I imagined more of a Thelma and Louise ending. But the masses have to be pleased and that’s what the epilogue did. Still a 5 star read for me but Iโ€™m still looking for an ending like the one in Lilyโ€™s The Director. I love anything this author writes.
