Darkness asked her to dance.
It started with a cold stare.
A deal with a devil in a bespoke suit.
He was wicked. Cruel. No sane person would fall in love with him.
But sanity abandoned her the second she agreed to be his.
She chose to take his hand.
It started with a white dress.
With ocean eyes.
With a woman he had to have, even though he had no business touching her porcelain skin.
She was never meant to enter his world.
He dragged her in anyway.
It was meant to be about his twisted, selfish desires.
She gave him a glimpse of the man he could’ve been had the world not turned him into a monster.
He led her into the abyss.
There, in the darkness, she learned wicked things.
He knew he’d ruin her life, loving her. So he lied. Like the sinner he was, he broke her gentle, precious heart.
Like only a devil could.
But the dance had to end.
What a set up?! A criminal bad boy, a beautiful good girl and a heated first meet. Jay is a dark, mysterious underworld kingpin with tons of money and mystery. He’s cold, cold and cruel. He gets what he wants and he wants Stella, in his bed, at least for a while. A cold arrangement with a hot outcome. I loved Stella’s backbone when she used it but I didn’t quite understand her thrall of Jay. Sure, he was all about control and power but I didn’t feel it. His character was flat to me. He didn’t become interesting until late in the book when we find out a few details about him and his business. I wasn’t feeling that either. You know who I did swoon over? Jay’s sexy henchman Karson. I hope he gets a story with the powerhouse Wren, Stella’s friend. One of the wonderful parts to the story was Stella’s girlfriends. Even though I didn’t much care for Jay and this story I kept reading because I wanted to know where this couple ended up. There was an explosion at end with Jay being an ass and Stella crushed. But I loved Stella’s response to Jay’s harsh cruelty. Another thing that was disappointing was the sex scenes. They weren’t that interesting to me. A little formulaic to me with some BDSM thrown in. While this didn’t quite work for me I am looking forward to the next book for more Jay and Stella and my fav Karson.
