The veil covered her face, but I knew what waited underneath would be absolutely breathtaking. She had been gorgeous in that coffee house, so I knew today would be even more amazing. Women always did themselves up for their weddings.
β€œI can’t believe this is really happening,” I choked out. β€œI’m finally getting married.”
β€œCongratulations,” Red muttered, though he didn’t sound too thrilled.
Everyone in the church was in awe of the woman walking toward me. She was absolutely beautiful. God, my heart was clenching at what was about to happen.
Finally, after what felt like five minutes, she stood beside me. Grinning like a fool, I took the veil and lifted it, brushing it back over her head.
And paused in confusion.
Blond hair. Check.
Blue eyes. Nope.
Long, slender nose. Nope.
Short? Not really.
β€œUm…” I stared at the woman who was not the woman I chose to marry, and failed to say anything else.
β€œEmily decided she couldn’t make it,” the woman smiled. β€œI’m Daphne. I’m filling in for her.”
Filling in. As if she was taking her place in a race instead of a marriage. My heart thundered in my chest as I heard Red chuckling behind me. What the hell was I supposed to do now? All these people were here, waiting for me to get married. I’d told everyone she was the woman of my dreams, and then she failed to show.
And she even got a stand in.
β€œI’m sorry, what?”
The woman looked a tad nervous as she leaned in closer. β€œDaphne Gray. It’s nice to meet you.”
I had two choices. I could go walk out and lick my woundsβ€”admit that this whole thing had been a stupid decisionβ€”or I could go through with this insanity and save face. At least for the next day.
β€œBradford Kavanaugh,” I said after just a moment of hesitation. β€œLet’s get married.”

I love books! I have been reading for as long as I can remember. I was the kid with the flashlight under the covers reading until the wee hours. Books were my refuge. I was delighted to discover tree climbing. I would take a book and climb to the top of a Mimosa tree and read for hours...and of course ignore my mother calling for me to do chores. I was committed to reading all of the Nancy Drew stories. Ned was my first book boyfriend. When I was in my early teens I discovered Harlequin romances. I feel in love and it changed my life. I was in love with Love πŸ’• That’s something for a girl who hadn’t been kissed yet. When I read β€œhe thrust his throbbing member into her womanhood” I was lost to discovering more about this particular brand of romance. But I don’t just enjoy romance reads. My father-in-law introduced me to the high fantasy genre and I loved it. When I bought my first Nook the world of books really took me by surprise. I was enthralled with all the available genres and to my delight I discovered erotica. In most cases, I was with family on visits to bookstores and you don’t peruse those even if they carried them. Oh the shame of it! ;) Thanks to Nancy Drew I still enjoy mysteries along with romance, fantasy, erotica, paranormal, steampunk, thrillers, and well, most anything except a horror of a horror. My favorite might be romance suspense but it’s hard for me to pick just one. I had a serious health issue a few years ago and was forced to quite working after building a career I could be proud of. It was devastating and depressing. I lost myself in books and now spend my days (and nights) reading. I am so appreciative of authors and the wonderful storytelling I’ve found in books. It takes me away from my troubles and introduces me into a world like no other. I love books!
