Another Becker boy down and one to go! The broody, broken-hearted man-boy, Michael, youngest of the terrific Becker bad boys is on the cusp of manhood at eighteen and ready to move on from his job at Scooter Whiskey. After his high school sweetheart left him in the dust he decides to make a big change and move to the Big Apple at the end of summer. His announcement takes his family by surprise and leaves his best friend, Kylie reeling. Kylie has loved Mikey since childhood and decides to make the most of the summer, heal Mikey’s broken heart and maybe get her chance at love with him. Meanwhile, the two are still trying to hack into the deceased Becker dad’s computer to uncover its secrets in hopes of solving the mystery surrounding his death. Yup, the feud between the Scooter clan and the Beckers is alive and well. At stake is the Scooter Whiskey Distillery. This story focuses more on the slow-build romance between the two besties and not a lot on the Distillery. The romance is sweet and heartfelt with a few surprises and loads of angst towards the end. But these two are so cute together and have been throughout the whole series. I fell in love with the slightly awkward, nerdy Kylie a couple of books ago. This really fleshes out her character and she is wonderfully selfless and giving. Such a good compliment to the “idiot” boy, Mikey with his trademark Becker good looks and stubbornness. Great epilogue that reveals a little more of the mystery as the Jordan takes over with the research on their dad’s death. As usually, great writing in this fabulous small town series with terrific family and friends. I’m looking forward to Jordan’s story and uncovering more of the mystery.
