Excerpt:
βColby, I donβt think I can handle going one more day . . . without knowing how you feel,β I say, taking slow steps back to her.
Her throat moves with a hard swallow, and my eyes dart to her neck, to the spot where my lips were a day before.
βI need to know what your lips feel like on mine,β I say, looping a finger in the collar of her shirt and tugging her forward, coaxing her toward me. She shuffles forward, and my palm glides along her jaw, moving her hair away from the nape of her neck so my thumb can tease her soft skin until she breaks out into goosebumps.
βI need to know theyβre how I remember them . . . your lips,β I say, lowering my mouth to her neck and kissing her softly. Her head tilts to the side, opening up to me.
βAnd I want to know how your skin feels against mine.β
My hand glides down her arm as I suckle at her neck, my fingertips flirting with her waist, slowly pulling her tucked shirt free from the band on her black joggers. A tiny gasp breaks through her lips when my fingers graze against her bare skin, sliding around her oblique to the curve of her lower back.
βLike satin,β I whisper against her ear.
βJayden,β she hums my name.
βHmm,β I say, nipping at her ear, praying she turns into me rather than offers a renewed campaign for all the reasons we shouldnβt do this. Any of this.
βIs this real?β Her voice is hoarse, and her eyes search mine before closing, her face inching forward until our noses touch.
βItβs always been real, Colby. You and me? Weβve been real my entire life. Itβs always been you.β
Blurb:
Jayden Vargas and I have history, a past Iβve finally moved on from. But when my dream job pairs me with the only guy to ever break my heart, old wounds surface, and buried feelings come right along with them.
My father is the winningest baseball coach in Texas history, and Jayden Vargas was his favorite player. While my softball skills were elite enough to pay for college, my best friend Jayden was destined for the majors. My dad knew it then. And so did I. Maybe thatβs why I fell for him. Or perhaps it was his sad eyes and perfect dimples. One thing is certain, a desperate kiss after the state championship our senior year made those feelings impossible to outrun.
Then he ghosted me completely. Years of friendship gone. My person, no longer a phone call away. The perfect kiss . . . tainted. So I focused on my game. And I turned my talent into the job my father always wantedβan MLB hitting coach.
Iβm the first female member of the Sweetwater Mavericks coaching staff. The weight of it isnβt lost on me. And I have my sights set on breaking down more barriers. Iβm determined not to let anything get in my way. Not even Mavericks star player Jayden Vargas.
Even if Iβve always been his biggest fan.
So what if it turns out heβs always been mine.
