I have nothing left.

One moment of weakness seven years ago, and I lost my job, my art, and my only friend. Now Iā€™m working nights at a gas station to scrape together a living and a way to care for my sister, and Iā€™m completely alone.

And then I see him on the front page of the newspaper, my former college student and the man who ruined my life seven years ago.

Ryan Bell.

So I carve a statue of the devil and I give the devil Bellā€™s face. I leave it for the world to see.

I shouldnā€™t have done it. I should have known heā€™d use the statue to hunt me, find me, offer a deal that demands my soul. He wants one year of meā€”all of meā€”and then heā€™ll make my problems go away.

How can I refuse? When itā€™s my only chance of salvation? How can I refuse even when I know Ryan Bell will leave me with a broken heartā€”again?

But itā€™s my own faultā€¦I should have stayed hidden, I shouldnā€™t have revealed how the memory of him haunts me still. I was the one who spoke of the devil, after all.

I canā€™t be surprised that he appeared.

(This is the fourth full-length standalone in the Priest Collection, featuring Father Bell’s youngest brother, Ryan Bell. You do not have to read Priest, Sinner, or Saint to read Devil.)

I love books! I have been reading for as long as I can remember. I was the kid with the flashlight under the covers reading until the wee hours. Books were my refuge. I was delighted to discover tree climbing. I would take a book and climb to the top of a Mimosa tree and read for hours...and of course ignore my mother calling for me to do chores. I was committed to reading all of the Nancy Drew stories. Ned was my first book boyfriend. When I was in my early teens I discovered Harlequin romances. I feel in love and it changed my life. I was in love with Love šŸ’• Thatā€™s something for a girl who hadnā€™t been kissed yet. When I read ā€œhe thrust his throbbing member into her womanhoodā€ I was lost to discovering more about this particular brand of romance. But I donā€™t just enjoy romance reads. My father-in-law introduced me to the high fantasy genre and I loved it. When I bought my first Nook the world of books really took me by surprise. I was enthralled with all the available genres and to my delight I discovered erotica. In most cases, I was with family on visits to bookstores and you donā€™t peruse those even if they carried them. Oh the shame of it! ;) Thanks to Nancy Drew I still enjoy mysteries along with romance, fantasy, erotica, paranormal, steampunk, thrillers, and well, most anything except a horror of a horror. My favorite might be romance suspense but itā€™s hard for me to pick just one. I had a serious health issue a few years ago and was forced to quite working after building a career I could be proud of. It was devastating and depressing. I lost myself in books and now spend my days (and nights) reading. I am so appreciative of authors and the wonderful storytelling Iā€™ve found in books. It takes me away from my troubles and introduces me into a world like no other. I love books!
