About THE CALL OF FIRE
The only thing more dangerous than their love? Thinking they might actually survive it…
Elspeth Lennox arranges the Natura world’s most powerful unions every day. But her own love life? That’s way more complicated. Her bloodline (and lack of elemental powers) ensures that she won’t get a fairy tale ending. A mutually beneficial arranged marriage is probably the best she can do. And she’s mostly OK with that…until she meets her inconveniently sexy new bodyguard.
Fire elemental Aleron Foussé will have his revenge. Protecting Elspeth will give him the cover he needs to finally bring down his father’s murderer. Elspeth is just a pawn. He knows that. But knowing doesn’t stop him from wanting. Love, family…things he hasn’t dreamed of in years. Now he wants it all. He wants her. Too bad a union between them is as forbidden as it is ill-timed…
Enemies are circling. The threat of civil war looms large. Only one thing is certain—there’s a lot more at stake than Elspeth and Aleron’s happily ever after. Because when all is said and done, lives will be lost.
They can only hope it’s not theirs…
A thrilling paranormal romance! What a terrific start to a new series if you don’t count those fabulous novellas that introduces the hero and heroine of this story. You don’t have to read the Mistake or the Birthday to enjoy this book but I recommend it. Neither did the author recount those stories in this one. Just enough details to get the gist of Aleron and Elspeth’s backstories. Speaking of Aleron and Elspeth. Absolutely stunning characters! You know going in where these are headed but the journey is fantastic. I loved their build to love. There are elements in this story that may seem familiar but it’s definitely a fresh take on beings protecting humans from themselves and Mother Earth. I loved getting to know these supernatural beings ruled by nature and the four elements, fire, air, water and earth along with their duties and abilities. The first part of the book rocked along as our couple got to know each other and the details of the Natura world unfolded. The good, the bad, the really ugly and the dangerous. It was a little slow around the middle but then the surprise twists kicked in and the danger ramped up. It was an exciting race to the end with on-the-edge-of-your-seat action along with the swoon-worthy romance. Sure, the method of refueling the supernatural’s abilities was a little on the nose but makes for interesting plot elements for future stories as the ending and that fabulous epilogue sets up for the next installment. I thought the sex was a little bland but I like the smoking hot variety of sexy times. That’s not to say these two didn’t have their moments of steam and sizzle cause they did. Their relationship was mostly super sweet and loving. The secondary characters are spectacular with loads of family, friends and enemies for the continuation of the series. I can’t wait for the next installment. Absolutely fantastic! A must read.
