Excerpt from The Don, Book 1:

I stared out onto the city, well aware that even if it were daylight, no one would be able to see in here. It made me feel our isolation more, and I loved it.
Wanted it.
Craved more.
Needed like I’d never needed before.
Then, everything changed.
It was quite accidental.
A sharp turn around a bend had us jostling into each other. Nothing crazy. But our hands slipped, and the edge of mine brushed against his crotch.
He had a hard-on.
He had a hard-on, yet he wasn’t pawing at me. Wasn’t treating me like I was a whore. Was holding me as if I were the opposite, in fact.
His control was lust-inducing.
His arousal was inspiring.
And I wanted both.
I wanted his control ruptured.
His arousal burned off.
On me.
I turned my face to the side, letting my lips press against his throat. His pulse bobbed as a result and as I let my tongue dart out to play, he groaned, and I felt the soft vibrations. Encouraged, I sucked down, nipping and teasing as I made my way up, soft kisses dancing against the line of his jaw where I could feel the slight bumps of stubble that would begin to grow soon.
Finally, I found his mouth. Reaching up with my free hand, I encouraged him to tilt his head downward so our lips could meet.
A whimper escaped me when they did.
It felt as if I’d been waiting a lifetime for this moment, for the meeting of our mouths, for this kiss. Time stopped still, everything in me freezing as my body processed the rightness of the connection between us.

MY REVIEW:

A new king of NY as the new Don flexes his power and rises to the top. I don’t know if anyone can surpass the Irish mob aka the Feckers aka the O’Donnellys but these Sicilians come close. I love this new mafia family, the Valentinis, and can’t wait for more with siblings Rory and Stan. This continues the love story between the fabulous Jen and hunky Luc. Their romance is divine as Jen slowly believes she can really have it all even if she avoids the mob. Luc is just too wonderful to her to let him go. Not that he will have that. She’s the one for him. I love her gold digger mentality. She’s authentic and funny in her materialism. I’m right there with her in her love of beautiful clothes, handbags, shoes and sparkly jewelry. Luc is a dream come true as he makes her a believer. They’re so sexy! The suspense and every present danger is heart stopping as Luc wields his power to make his place in NY and brokers peace with the other families. Luc makes quick work of his enemies, brings his allies closer and enforces his deadly persona with his knife skills. Dangerous and yummy! His siblings are intriguing as his right hands. I guess Rory’s story is next. As a woman she needs to have a husband to hid behind to serve her brother. There’s a hint of her story as an old love comes back into the picture. I’m so glad Jen got her happily ever after. There were a few coincidences in the story that were a little off putting for me but not anything that affected my overall enjoyment. I loved seeing a few of the favorites in the story from Jen’s bestie Aoife to Lodestar to the O’Donnelly brothers. There are a few sad moments in the story especially with Aoife. My heart broke! I loved this second half to Jen and Luc’s romance that full of danger, suspense and sexy love. A must read!
